MEPA Miamisburg Recap

This past weekend, Rhythm X Percussion and Wind Ensembles premiered their programs for the X16 Performance Tour at MEPA Miamisburg. Percussion premiered The Alpha, with amazing 'trees' and a new tarp from Field & Floor FX. The Winds premiered Aurora, featuring the music of John Mackey's Aurora Awakes. You can view the Percussion scores here, and the Winds scores here

After the show,  The X Academy held a clinic that was well attended by local students and educators from the Cincinnati/Dayton area. The Rhythm X design team explained and revealed how our show was created, and layered. The front ensemble demonstrated parts that sound independent, but when played together create the catchy melody you hear.

The battery then demonstrated how they are tackling a difficult design challenge this year. Each page of the show is learned with a syncopated foot timing that almost never follows a consistent pulse. This requires the players to learn the music over the syncopation or polyrhythm in the feet for every page. Battery arranger Tim Jackson discussed this logistical and educational challenge as well as how it ties into 'The Alpha' theme which often attempts to be 'first' to conquer something difficult.
